Created for Rudolf II
Rudolf Gallery and Spanish Hall were created in the northern wing of the New Palace for the collections of Emperor Rudolf II. The gallery’s long proportions still carry the atmosphere of an imperial display space.
The gallery interior and its length
Its linear plan, chandeliers, decorated ceiling and tall windows give the room a strong ceremonial rhythm. The architecture naturally draws the eye along the full length of the gallery.
Daylight and lighting in the gallery
Rudolf Gallery can take on a remarkably different character after dark. Carefully controlled blue, indigo or warm architectural lighting can heighten the ceiling detail and create a memorable setting for dining, awards or receptions.
Planning a linear room
In a long gallery, the position of a lectern or screen affects guests at opposite ends very differently. Check sightlines and sound coverage against the proposed table plan, and reserve space for service before confirming the guest count.
